MM Q&A: Jessica McKee, ARTISTRY® Consultant.

It's only normal that when we enter the world of parenting we naturally re-evaluate our priorities in trying to obtain that work/life balance. More often then not our works lives take a back seat and the 'mum-ing' takes over.

Faced with inflexible workplaces, lower salaries and the prospect of missing out on promotions, a growing number of women are not only using their maternity leave to care for their newborns, but also to carve out new careers.

And that's exactly what our newest MM Q&A member Jessica did. She was working a few jobs and felt like she was getting nowhere and decided to start her own little side hustle into a career as an ARTISTRY consultant.

Here's a little bit about her journey...

Who inspires you?

That’s a hard one! My husband inspires me with his constant drive to be better and his love for life.  My mum inspires me with her unconditional love and her ability to bounce back and deal with any situation. I could go on and on… my Dad, my little boy... I get inspiration everyday from so many people in my life overcoming challenges, kicking goals and being honest and raw with themselves!

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Never devalue yourself, let go of self-pity. You can’t be pitiful and powerful at the same time! This hit me right in the feels! I know I can have a ‘pity party’ from time to time and that’s ok, sometimes we need to, but don’t stay there!  I have learnt you can’t help anyone while you are focusing on yourself!

What motivated you to start your side hustle?

I was looking for more! I was working 2 jobs and was getting nowhere and had no time. When I saw the Amway opportunity I jumped at it as I saw a way to create income and get my time back. After being in the business for a while I now realise that I love to help and inspire other people to get what they desire! I started using the ARTISTRY products and haven’t looked back! They are by far the most superior products I have ever used!

What advice would you offer to a fellow mama wanting to start her own journey?

You just have to start! There will never be a perfect time, you have to create it! Manage your focus, not your time! Don’t ask, “why is this happening to me?”...ask, “how deep do I have to dig to overcome this and not back down”. If you have a burning desire chase it, if you have a dream to focus on, it will get you through!

Any struggles along the way?

Plenty! Mostly my own insecurities and self doubt! If you believe in yourself you can back yourself you can overcome anything! Make sure you surround yourself with people who are where you want to be and who are talking about the future, not living on the past.

What is your proudest moment on your journey?

Becoming a Mum! I know it sounds so cliche! But it has challenged my mental state more than anything I have ever done! I only ever had to think of myself before my little boy! I mean I have a husband I think about but he is an adult haha! I am learning how to grow and expand my thinking everyday! It has taught me I don’t have to be “perfect” because that just means I am in a closed mindset, you are more likely to break under pressure trying to be perfect. I am now more solution focused.

What was the last thing you did for yourself?

I did my nails and all my lady maintenance!

One vice you’ll never give up?

COFFEE!! A nice little Capp makes me very excited!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

5 years older but happier and richer!? Haha jokes! My partner and I have our own goals and combined goals which I think are so important for you to maintain anything in common with your partner in crime! We are working towards financial freedom to be able to have time to do the things that make our hearts sing! Family, friends and traveling!

What brings you back down to earth?

My husband. He is very understanding and we are very open with our feelings, he has seen me at my best and worst he knows what makes me tick!

Hardest part of your work/life juggle?

The feeling of being enough! Do I give my family enough time, have I done enough in my business today? That’s where I need to realise perfection has no place in my life!

(Except my little boy, he is pretty perfect 😉)

Your favourite thing to do in your down time?

My love language is quality time, so I love to be with my family and my friends!
