Natural remedies for cold & flu season.
Sneezy season is upon us.
At our house we seem to be going through tissues at an alarming rate and I'm forever wiping someones nose! Like most ailments, prevention is key, but if you feel a touch of the cold and flu creeping up on you and want to nip it in the bud there are a few natural ways you can help your body fight off the flu.
CHAMOMILE. Pictured above, so pretty and so good for you. Chamomile can help promote relaxation and reduce inflammation, encouraging the body to heal itself. Sip on chamomile tea to help melt away pain from cold induced muscle aches and cramps.
CINNAMON. Cinnamon is another inflammation reducing superfood that’s rich in phenolic compounds. It's antimicrobial and immunity-boosting and taking it in combination with with healing honey, like Manuka, activates complementary agents that work together to even more effectively resolve health problems than when only consumed individually.
GINGER. Ginger is an amazing super immunity booster. It contains Gingerols, a compound that contains potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which help support immune function and keep germs away. Warming fresh ginger in water and making ginger tea is excellent if you’re feeling ill, as it warms the body and encourages lymph drainage while soothing the stomach and helping to encourage digestion.
P.S. Drinking ginger tea when you have morning sickness is a lifesaver.
GARLIC. Garlic is a powerful antioxidant with antimicrobial, antiviral and antibiotic properties. For colds and flus, it also provides decongestant. Garlic has flu-busting effects, vitamin C, a slew of enzymes, and minerals such as sulphur and selenium that when consumed in its raw state help speed up the recovery process. Now i know eating raw garlic seems a little daunting but trust me, it works. Another cool trick a friend once shared with me is swallowing an entire clove of garlic like you would a pill so you won't have to breathe garlic all over everyone all day.
EUCALYPTUS. Diffusing eucalyptus oil can help unclogged nasal passage ways, giving our respiratory systems relief. Diffusers are all the range right now but make sure when your buying your oils, you look for certified organic 100% eucalyptus. Don't settle for cheap oils claiming they are the real deal, you get what you pay for with essential oils so buy a trusted brand and look for the certification.
