Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

The Modern Mother's Hummus.

The Modern Mother's Hummus.

We are big hummus fans in our house.

My kids love it and it's packed full of great protein and fibre as well as a great source of vitamin B and folate. When we were tube weaning Marley and preparing ourselves for a drop in her weight our nutritionist recommended hummus as a great go to snack to help keep her weight trending upwards.

I know you can buy some great pre-made hummus these days but making your own is super easy and in my opinion always tastes better than anything you buy in a supermarket. I love making my own because i can tweak the recipe to suit what my tastebuds want and i know exactly what my kids are eating.

My favourite recipe is below and you can customise to your own liking easily by adding or subtracting what you like. Want more of a kick? Throw in some chilli. Add some coriander for a green hummus or stir through some Dukkah at the end for an authentic Middle Eastern flavour.

Yum!

The Modern Mother's Hummus.

Makes 2¼ cups.

Ingredients:

400G CAN CHICKPEAS, DRAINED AND RINSED.

1.5 TABLESPOON TAHINI. ( I love Carwari)

1 CLOVE GARLIC, CRUSHED.

¼ CUP LEMON JUICE.

A PINCH EACH OF SEA SALT, CRACKED BLACK PEPPER AND CUMIN.

Method:

Place the chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper and cumin in a food processor and process until smooth. (You can add a little water if your mix is too thick)

Place on a serving plate and sprinkle with garnish of choice. Whole chickpeas, fresh herbs, toasted pine nuts or dukkah. Whatever you fancy.

Drizzle the hummus with a little olive oil and serve with fresh crusty bread or for the kiddo's carrot sticks.

Enjoy!
