Charcoal juice? It's a thing.
Healthy living is the the black, no really, it is. The craze of being obsessed with ones health doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. We are drinking green juice, working out and buying gym gear like never before and we are trying some pretty interesting things along the way.
Like, activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is popping up in our beauty products, on our vitamin shelves and making it's way into our diet.
Charcoal is a carbon rich, natural binding agent derives from peat, coal and wood. Once activated (by using steam) the internal pores of the charcoal expand to a great size and trap/bind to chemicals that may be in our system.
Charcoal is especially successful in binding to poisons and toxins that may lie in the stomach and carry them safely through the bowel. Charcoal doesn't draw toxins from tissue just FYI. This is important because it will not cause danger to people with high levels of tissue toxicity.
It will however absorb chemical drugs, organic and in-organic chemicals, pesticides, inhaled fertilisers and metals that are camping out in our gut. Charcoal will not bind to sodium, iron, lead, arsenic, iodine, fluorine or alcohol though.
You can get charcoal capsules but it's best taken in a liquid form so adding it to green juices, water or your morning brew of choice is a good way of delivering into our system. Don't worry it's virtually tasteless. It's super important to drink plenty of water if your consuming charcoal. You want to give it a good trip down into the stomach but be careful it can lead to constipation so keep your fluids up!
Charcoal may interfere with some medications so please consult your doctor if your thinking of adding it to your diet.
Keep your eyes peeled for a charcoal face mask i will be sharing on the blog soon!
