DIY Gingerbread Play Dough.
My mother used to make play dough for my sister, brother and i when we were kids. We would make multiple batched every school holidays and dye them different colours. It was, and still is one of my favourite childhood memories.
Naturally i wanted to learn how to do the same for Lulu and i have found THE best recipe for gingerbread play dough because of course i'm always thinking about my stomach and Lulu loves gingerbread men!
It's incredibly easy to make and fills the house with a warm, almost christmas-y smell that makes me want to whip out my Sinatra Xmas album. Too much?
I hope you like it!
Gingerbread Play Dough
1 cup of flour
1/4 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup of water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1.5 tsp each of ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg.
Combine all dry ingredients in a saucepan and add water and oil and mix until combined. It should resemble a sloppy cake batter.
Put on the stove stop over medium/low heat and stir until mixture clumps together in a ball.
Keep stirring the ball as best you can around on low heat for about 3-4 mins, you'll notice it will darken in colour as you go, your wrist will get a good work out here, keep stirring!
Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly before kneading until smooth. About 2 mins.
Let it cool completley before letting the kiddo's go crazy with their ginger bread man cutters and remember an air tight container is a must to keep it from cracking and drying out.
The whole process takes around twenty mins and the hardest part is trying not to eat it when your done!
