Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

A new year + a new mantra.

A new year + a new mantra.

As we enter a new year I, like so many others are looking back on the year that was. The high's and low's and everything in between.

It's also with a some half-assed attempt and slight eye rolling that i try and make some resolutions. Maybe some that i will actually keep.... for a week or two at least. Yeah right...

Now i'm not about to convince myself that 2016 is the year i magically wake up and look like Kate Moss circa Johnny Depp era, sigh. Nor will i think a new year will make me cooler than RoÌsÌn Murphy, double sigh.

One thing i am sure of is 2016 will bring its own high's and low's just like this year and every year from here on in. Ah crap.

Some highlights from 2015...

In May, Jonathan and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary. We figured the best way to celebrate 3,650 days with the one you love is to get hitched! We flew with 30 of our friends and family to Honolulu, Hawaii. We tied the knot on a perfect summer's day, by the water, under palm tree's surrounded by the people we love most in the world. It was to say the very least.... freakin awesome!

Our little Lulu started her school career, and on her first day of school i may have shed a tear or two. She also turned 6 this year and has grown into the coolest, most hilarious kid i know. Yes, she's very stubborn and at times challenging but i wouldn't have it any other way. She really is the best thing that walked into my life, and everyday i'm amazed she's mine.... enough of the sap now.

This year we experienced the joy of adding to our little crew, number two is due in April next year and Lulu is so excited she's getting a baby sister.... yep, it's a girl you guys! Woo!

We also welcomed our little rescue poochie Buddy. He's damn cute and full of spunk and personality and having a furry member of the family again has been amazing. He loves cuddles, digging holes in the sand at the beach and sticks!

2015 was also the year i launched Modern Mother. An idea, a vision i had kept in my mind and to myself for many years was birthed into creation and has become another member of my little family. Fear kept it hidden within me for so long and i'm so happy to have finally let go of the ridiculous fear of people judging/shaming me for occupying this little corner of the web.

So silly...

Modern Mother has started to blossom into the awesome-ness i knew it would be. I'm so excited for the year ahead and cant wait to share it all with you.

Ok, enough gushing about myself now....

I've decided this year, resolutions are getting kicked to the kerb... let's face it, i never keep them. I give it a red hot go for about a fortnight then feel horrible when i loose interest or something else/better comes along. Instead i've decided to have a new outlook, a new mantra if you like.

After reading this post from one of my fav bloggers Love Taza, i fell in love with this new way of looking at things. It goes a little sumthin' like this....

This is not an emergency...... again.... This is NOT an emergency....

Running 5 mins late...

Lulu making a mess when she eats...

The dishes not being done every night...

Feeling overwhelmed when i cant do it all....

This is not an emergency,... it really is hard to keep things in perspective sometimes. I am certainly no wonder woman and don't claim to know it all or do it all. But I do feel the pressure if i can't. The little stresses of the day do add up and sometimes it gets a little hard to see through the fog. 99.9% of the time there is no real danger or alarm, just me getting in the way of myself.

So with a deep breath i will be practising saying (in my head of course)

No one is hurt, everyone is safe, this is not an emergency......

My new mantra for the new year!

Let's do this 2016.

Maternity wear that won't make you gag.
